When both her career and relationship fail, Imogene (Kristen Wiig), a New York playwright with no other options, reluctantly moves back home to New Jersey to live with her eccentric mother (Annette Bening) and younger brother (Christopher Fitzgerald).
She finds her bed has been taken over by a strange man (Darren Criss) and an even stranger man (Matt Dillon) is sleeping in her mother's bed. Imogene realizes that in order to rebuild her life she needs to love and accept both her family and her Jersey roots if she's ever going to get it together enough to be able to get the hell away from them.
