Big Giant Wave Overview

An ethnographer is interested in the omnipresence of music in the life of the Pygmy tribes. A music therapist for infants realizes that calming rhythms are successful in calming her patients. Singer Patrick Watson associates the reaction of his concert audience with a giant wave surging through the universe. In Sweden, a Venezuelan pianist, who directs an orchestra of young refugees, advocates music as an agent of social integration.

Deep in the woods and on the beaches, an environmentalist sound-taker marvels at the musicality of wild nature. A researcher describes the beneficial effects of music on different areas of the brain. A violinist finds more gratification with people on the metro than with a symphony orchestra. Finally, a popular DJ says that without the beat, music is nothing.
